What is a kinetic art sculpture, also called a "mobile"? Who is Alexander Calder? And why does Debra Ann make hanging art mobiles she likes to call "Atomic Mobiles"? These questions and more are answered in this blog!
What Are Hanging Mobiles?
Alexander Calder developed the concept of hanging art sculptures in the mid 1930s. His hanging mobiles are displayed in museums and galleries around the world. Marcel Duchamp, dadaist and artist, named them "mobiles" because of their moving kinetic beauty (mobile as opposed to stationary, or not moving).
Hanging art mobiles are met with fascination because the eye is automatically drawn to movement. Mobiles move gracefully in the slightest breeze and are peaceful and calming to watch.
